Flock Safety’s founder and CEO Garrett Langley predicted last year that his company’s AI surveillance cameras would eliminate most crime in the U.S.
In the meantime, it’s grappling with growing public backlash.
An activist organization called DeFlock maintains a crowdsourced map with the locations of well over 80,000 cameras.
Langley had referred to the group as a “terroristic organization” in an interview with Forbes, though he recently apologized.
The anti-Flock movement has gained traction following reports that ICE could access its cameras, though Langley says his company does not work with the agency.
“I’m also just an American who values safety,” says DeFlock’s Will Freeman.
“I just don’t think mass surveillance is the way to go about it.”
