President Donald Trump in his most recent update on the conflict announced that the ongoing peace talks between the United States and Iran are continuing at a "rapid pace," despite reports that Iran had ceased negotiations.
"Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran," the president said in a short Truth Social post on Monday.
According to media reports, Iranian state media had claimed Tehran had ceased negotiations with the U.S.
The Iranian state news agency Tasnim reported that Tehran had halted indirect negotiations after Israel ordered an expansion of its offensive into Lebanon, according to Reuters.
When asked by reporters about Iran's involvement in the talks, Trump claimed that he had not been informed of such a cessation.
"It's an appropriate thing to say, because they're better negotiators than they are fighters," Trump told NBC News in a brief phone call.
"But they haven't informed us of that.
The president also posted to social media on Monday that he had a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and discussed the fighting in Lebanon.
"I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, and there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back," he said.
"Likewise, through highly placed Representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — That Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel," Trump concluded.
Netanyahu posted to X after this announcement confirming the call.
"Tonight, I spoke with President Trump and told him that if Hezbollah does not cease attacking our cities and citizens–Israel will attack terror targets in Beirut," the prime minister posted in Hebrew.
"This stance of ours remains unchanged.
In parallel, the IDF will continue to operate as planned in southern Lebanon," he continued.
Monday's updates followed weekend military operations by U.S.
Central Command (CENTCOM), which said it launched "self-defense" strikes against key sites in the Islamic Republic in a claimed response to "aggressive Iranian actions," including reportedly shooting down a military drone.
CENTCOM had also said that the U.S. military had intercepted Iranian ballistic missiles targeting American forces based in Kuwait.
However, the command gave no indication of a termination of the ceasefire which has held since early April.

Central Command remains vigilant and will continue to protect our forces from Iranian aggression while supporting the ongoing ceasefire,” the command stated
Following the cessation of extensive combat operations in the Islamic Republic, known as Operation Epic Fury, U.S. naval forces implemented a blockade of Iranian ports, which has placed immense economic pressure on the Islamic Republic.
Trump told NBC News that the blockade would continue, even if talks stopped.
"It doesn't mean we're going to go and start dropping bombs all over there," he told the outlet.
"We'll keep the blockade."
"If they don't want to talk, that's OK with me.
I think it's fine.
I don't particularly want to talk either.
We talk too much," he added.
