Six people were injured in a stabbing inside Penn Station in Midtown on Sunday evening before a suspect was taken into custody, officials said.
The incident was reported around 7:02 p.m. at West 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue, the FDNY said.
Emergency responders were told that a person had stabbed multiple people at the location.
Amtrak police later took the suspect into custody, authorities said.
The person's identity was not immediately released.
FDNY officials said five of the six victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital.
One person suffered serious injuries, two had moderate injuries and two had minor injuries.
A sixth person was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
The FDNY did not immediately provide that person's condition.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Sunday night that the incident did not affect Amtrak service.
"My heart is with everyone who was injured, their loved ones, and all those shaken by this unacceptable violence," he said on social media.
"I’m wishing each of the victims a full and speedy recovery."
Gov.
Kathy Hochul called the attack a "horrific" act of violence.
“Our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones, and we are praying for their full recovery,” Hochul said on social media.
City Comptroller Mark Levine suggested the suspect may have been in mental distress.
He said the incident raised questions about the city's mental health system.
"Many important questions to answer about whether the suspect had fallen through the cracks of our porous mental health safety net," he wrote on social media.
Authorities did not immediately provide additional details about what led to the stabbing.
A spokesperson for Amtrak police said an investigation was underway.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
