Trump-backed Wilson wins S.C. GOP gubernatorial primary runoff election 62%

Alan Wilson has won the Republican nomination for Governor of South Carolina, defeating Pamela Evette in a primary runoff election.
On Tuesday, with 12% of the vote counted, the Associated Press projected Wilson the winner after he secured 27,221 votes, or 62.9%, while Evette received 16,275 votes, or 37.1%.
Two weeks before the runoff, Evette and Wilson both beat out Representatives Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) and Ralph Norman (R-S.C.).
Evette came in first place in the June 9th primary, taking 29% of the vote.
She was endorsed by term-limited South Carolina (R-S.C.), as well as President Donald Trump.
Last week, Trump issued an endorsement for Wilson, saying he “can’t hurt one of them by endorsing the other.”
“I love the Wonderful State of South Carolina for every reason in the book, including the fact that it is ‘loaded up’ with truly GREAT people and Political Leaders.
There are two Highly Respected Candidates running to be your next Governor in the June 23rd Republican Runoff Election,” Trump wrote.
“Both have had amazing careers, and have been with me from the beginning.
They are MAGA and America First all the way!”
he continued.
“These are the two that I was hoping would get into a Runoff, and they did.”
“Vote for Pam or Alan — They will not let you down!”
Trump’s post concluded.
In addition to the president, Wilson was endorsed by both Mace and Norman.
“I want a law-and-order governor, and that law-and-order governor is going to be Alan Wilson,” she said.
“And I not only think he’s going to win tonight, I think he’s going to mop the floor with Pamela Evette, and I very much look forward to that.”
“As someone who has always believed in participating in our elections, I’ve never sat on the sidelines and I’m not going to now,” Norman said at a press conference.
“We have two choices before us, and I owe it to my supporters to tell you where I stand.”
“Alan is a combat veteran, he’s a prosecutor, he’s a family man, he’s a Christian,” he added.
“And I believe he will work with conservatives all across this great state to advance an agenda that puts South Carolinians first.”
