Former Atlanta Braves manager and Hall of Famer Bobby Cox has died at the age of 84, the Braves announced.
“We are overcome with emotion at the passing of Bobby Cox, our treasured skipper,” the team stated on social media on Saturday.
“Bobby was the best manager to ever wear a Braves uniform.
He led our team to 14 straight division titles, five National League pennants and the unforgettable World Series title in 1995.
His Braves managerial legacy will never be matched.”
“Bobby was a favorite among all in the baseball community, especially those who played for him,” the statement continued.
“His wealth of knowledge on player development and the intricacies of managing the game were rewarded with the sport’s ultimate prize in 2014  enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame.”
Cox, a four-time Manager of the Year winner, led the Braves through what was considered their most prosperous era from the early 1990s through the mid-2000s, winning National League East division titles from 1991 to 2005.
During this timeframe, the team boasted stars such as Greg Maddux, nicknamed “The Professor,” Tom Glavine, a 10-time All-Star, and John Smoltz, a National Baseball Hall of Fame member who spent two decades with the team.
Cox’s 2,504 wins are the fourth-most in Major League Baseball (MLB) history, behind Connie Mack, Tony La Russa and John McGraw.
He received 100% of the Expansion Era Committee vote to earn induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
He became the Braves’ manager for a period beginning in 1978, but began managing the Toronto Blue Jays in 1982, transforming the team into a contender, which won the American League East division title in 1985 under his leadership.
Cox returned to Atlanta in 1986 as the Braves’ general manager before becoming the field manager in 1990.
The Braves sent condolences to Cox’s wife, children and grandchildren, saying, “his love of baseball was exceeded only by his love for his family.”
