Former Sen.
Scott Brown, a Republican seeking New Hampshire's U.S.
Senate seat, told Newsmax on Monday that President Donald Trump should continue playing "hardball" to secure congressional approval of the SAVE America Act.
Brown, who previously represented Massachusetts in the Senate, told "Ed Henry The Big Take" on Monday that Trump needs to stay focused and "continue to play hardball" to wrap up the deal.
He said Trump could push to "attach it to the defense authorization bill" and pressure senators by "saying he's not going to sign anything until we get it done."
"I agree with him.
If I were there, I would pass it," Brown said.
"I would do and say as much as I could to push those people who aren't supporting it to support it.
You have to work at it."
Brown said a small group of senators was working to block the election integrity legislation.
"And the fact that the Senate is holding up basically 50 bills, not putting through judges, doing basically what they want, and stalling, stalling, stalling, I don't think is right," he said.
Brown said House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., took the right approach by attaching the measure to a funding bill, saying reconciliation is one of the few ways Congress can pass it.
"Now, if you recall, when I tried to stop Obamacare, the Democrats used reconciliation to ram it through, and they did that specifically because there was money attached to it," he said.
"The Senate needs to start working on the president's agenda.
I think Speaker Johnson's onto something."
Brown said the majority of Americans support the election integrity process required by the legislation.
"They want to know when they go into a voting booth that the person next to them is actually an American and they're actually qualified to vote," he said.
