Lynda Katherine Broome (nee Bauer) was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1943 to Clifton and Margaret Bauer.
She lived in Michigan until moving to Texas in 1982.
She passed away in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 23, 2026.
Lynda grew up in Detroit, the oldest of three sisters, and graduated from Redford High School and then Eastern Michigan University, where she studied foreign languages.
In 1967, she married James Broome, a fellow classmate from Redford.
They started a young family while living in Livonia, Michigan, before moving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 1982.
They lived in Denton, Texas, for 42 years before moving to Fort Worth in 2025.
Lynda taught Spanish (and occasionally French and ESL) for more than 35 years in Michigan and Texas, introducing generations of students to a world of other cultures and encouraging them to think beyond the familiar.
She dedicated herself to helping her students gain confidence and achieve their potential, and many of them never forgot the impact she had on their lives.
Lynda lived half her life with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
She was a supporter and advocate for others with the same disease, and she was always willing to talk with newly-diagnosed acquaintances about her experience and what they might expect.
After her retirement, MS gradually eroded Lynda’s mobility, limiting the world for someone who had always dreamed of exploring it.
If you would like to make a positive difference to end this disease while remembering Lynda, please join her family in contributing to a memorial fund for the MS Society ( donate.nationalmssociety.org ).
She is survived by her husband, two children, a grandchild, and her two sisters.
