An integrated approach has made Renewed Life Christian Counseling Center a trusted resource not only for individuals and families, but also for churches throughout the region
By John Riddle, Contributing Journalist, Delaware LIVE
When life feels overwhelming, finding the right counselor can be one of the most important decisions a person ever makes.
For nearly two decades, Renewed Life Christian Counseling Center has been helping individuals, couples and families throughout Delaware and nearby Maryland discover healing by combining professional mental health care with the timeless truths of Scripture.
Founded by licensed clinical social worker and ordained pastor Grant Hasty, the nonprofit counseling center was created to fill what he saw as an important need in the community.
After spending 18 years in pastoral ministry, Hasty recognized that many people were wrestling with challenges that required more than traditional pastoral counseling alone.
While churches offered compassion and spiritual guidance, many pastors simply did not have the specialized clinical training or time to address complex mental health concerns.
On the other hand, many professional counseling practices did not fully integrate a person’s Christian faith into the therapeutic process.
That realization inspired him to build something different.
“My goal was to have counselors who would come alongside people right where they are and help them in their time of need with the compassion of Christ,” Hasty said.
Today, that vision continues through Renewed Life Christian Counseling Center, which serves clients from four convenient Delaware locations while remaining committed to its mission of providing clinically sound, Biblically grounded counseling.
Hasty’s background uniquely prepared him for that role.
In addition to earning a Master of Divinity degree and becoming an ordained pastor, he also completed a Master of Social Work degree specializing in mental health and chemical dependency.
He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and, before opening the counseling center, served in four churches ranging in size from 300 members to more than 5,000.
His years in ministry gave him a front-row seat to the emotional struggles many people silently carry.
“We wanted to create a counseling center that has a passion for God, a passion for teens and their families, and a passion for healthy marriages,” Hasty said.
“We also wanted to impact the local church by providing counseling that many pastors simply do not have the time or specialized training to address.”
That commitment has become increasingly important.
According to Hasty, the center continues to see growing numbers of clients seeking help for depression, anxiety, ADHD and addictions, including gambling and pornography.
Counselors also work with people facing grief, marital struggles, divorce, workplace stress, unemployment, parenting challenges and school-related issues.
The uncertainty of recent years, combined with economic pressures and the everyday demands of modern life, has prompted many individuals and families to seek professional counseling for the first time.
One of the qualities that sets Renewed Life Christian Counseling Center apart is its whole-person approach to care.
Rather than focusing only on symptoms, counselors seek to understand the emotional, physical, intellectual, social and spiritual aspects of each person’s life.
Therapy is designed to help clients develop healthier coping skills, strengthen relationships, gain new perspectives and deepen their relationship with God as they pursue emotional wellness.
Hasty is joined by a team of experienced counselors who share that philosophy.
Along with Hasty, the counseling staff includes Ruth Burton, LCSW; Heather Baker, LPCMH, NCC; and Allen R.
Harris, NCC, LPCMH, LCDP.
Together, they offer professional counseling tailored to each individual’s unique circumstances and goals.
The center also works to clarify common misconceptions about Christian counseling.
Christian counseling is not judgmental, Hasty explained.
Instead, it reflects God’s grace and compassion while helping clients navigate life’s challenges.
It also differs from traditional pastoral counseling because licensed counselors utilize proven clinical techniques and evidence-based therapeutic approaches alongside Biblical principles.
Likewise, Christian counseling does not ask clients to set aside their faith in pursuit of emotional healing.
Rather, it recognizes that professional mental health care and spiritual growth can work together to restore healthy relationships with God, self and others.
That integrated approach has made Renewed Life Christian Counseling Center a trusted resource not only for individuals and families, but also for churches throughout the region seeking reliable counseling referrals for members facing difficult circumstances.
To better serve the community, the center offers counseling services at four Delaware locations:
Reach Church, 2880 Summit Bridge Road in Bear
Brandywine Valley Church, 7 Mount Lebanon Road in Wilmington
Townsend Church, 4519 Dupont Parkway in Townsend
Still Water Farm Wellness Center, 286 Saw Mill Road in Townsend
By offering multiple locations, the center makes professional Christian counseling more accessible to residents across northern and central Delaware.
For Hasty, however, the mission has remained unchanged since the day the nonprofit first opened its doors.
His goal is to help people find hope in difficult seasons, experience genuine healing and discover the abundant life God desires for them.
