A look at the latest developments in Iran.
President Trump says negotiations between Washington and Thrron are moving ahead at a rapid pace.
The president also says Israel and Hezbollah will halt attacks after a weekend flare up in fighting.
>> Andd's Daniel Monahan reports along with new details from an Israeli operation in southern Lebanon.
President Trump told ABC News he believes a deal with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and extend the ceasefire could be reached over the next week.
The president saying a setback in negotiations stem from Iranian anger over Israeli air strikes in Lebanon.
Writing on True Social, the president said he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging him not to launch a major operation in Beirut.
President Trump says Netanyahu confirmed that no Israeli forces would enter Beirut and that any troops already heading there had been turned back.
The president also says he spoke with representatives of the Hezbollah terror group. He says they agreed to stop firing on Israel and Israeli soldiers.
Trump adding, "Let's see how long that lasts.
Hopefully, it will be for eternity."
President Trump, who cares deeply about Lebanon personally, has proposed a clear sequence to end the conflict.
Hezbollah, which started the fighting, must stop its attacks in Israel.
This will create space for a gradual deescalation.
>> The comments come amid renewed tensions in the Middle East after Israel and Hezbollah exchange strikes, while the United States and Iran also traded attacks over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu wrote on X that he told President Trump Israel would strike terror targets in Beirut if
Hezbollah continues attacking Israeli cities and civilians.
Netanyahu adding that Israel's position remains unchanged and that the IDF will continue operating in southern Lebanon as planned.
Meanwhile, the IDF shared images from an operation in southern Lebanon. The military says troops uncovered weapons in the village of Zotar al- Sharia, describing it as further evidence of Hezbollah activity inside civilian areas.
And the Israeli Air Force says it intercepted two projectiles launched from Lebanon into Israeli territory. The military says there were no casualties.
