Dan Hoffman, I want to approach the memorandum of understanding in Iran a little differently.
Let's do it this way.
Number one, ballistic missiles. How dangerous are ballistic missiles if Iran has thousands of them?
How dangerous is that? I mean, it's extremely dangerous for the region, for the Gulf States, for Israel.
We know that because Iran has launched those missiles. And I just would start the conversation, Mark, by the fact that it's the Iranian regime, these hardline IRGC uh security officials who are in charge of this country and it's their intent and their will to use those missiles.
That's the challenge we face. If those missiles were in the hands of Norway or Sweden, I wouldn't worry too much. But
General Vahiti has uh has assumed power in in Iran. I think he's uh the one who exercises really command and control over Iran's security and their and their foreign policy in the region and beyond.
And that's I think what we have to be concerned about.
>> And we didn't know, but we learned that they can reach Europe.
How long would it take them, do you think, to reach the United States?
Not too long, I wouldn't imagine.
>> No. And and the challenge the additional challenge we face is that Iran is is kind of a junior partner in this century's axis of dictatorships. That's China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
And so Iran is developing satellite technology and the ability to uh to enhance those ballistic missiles to the point where they could potentially strike the United States. They could already strike our installations overseas, but of course their intent would be to develop ballistic missiles to strike the homeland.
So, why aren't ballistic missiles in a memorandum of understanding? I imagine Iran didn't want them there, but why aren't they in there?
>> Well, I think the Trump administration looks at the memorandum of understanding as a pathway for the 60 days of negotiations, which reportedly will focus on Iran's nuclear program. That is of concern. The Trump administration was right to withdraw from the JCPOA in 2017 because of the nuclear sunset clauses and the fact that the JCPOA never addressed Iran's ballistic missiles or their support to proxy terrorists.
>> Let's talk about Hezbollah.
Hezbollah has been around a long time.
Didn't Hezbollah originally uh serve as part of an agreement in the 1980s and agreed to disarm and then shortly thereafter ripped up the agreement and has been a terrorist proxy for Iran ever since?
>> They have and Iran has used uh Hisbala, the Houthis, their proxy militants in Iraq uh to project power in the region and beyond. And I have no doubt that Iran was colluding with Hisbala, encouraging Hisbala, uh demanding that Hisbala launch those strikes on Israel to drive to try to drive a wedge between the President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu.
President Trump gravely concerned that that this deal that we're trying to push through would be in jeopardy because Israel was retaliating for his bull strikes on Israeli citizens. If Israel doesn't take the fight to the terrorist enemy, then Israeli citizens are going to die.
Now, that's in the first uh part of theou that Lebanon, the ceasefire is a part of this deal.
And what Iran wants is that Hezbollah to be included as a part of Lebanon, that Israel shouldn't be entitled to strike back at Hezbollah.
When in fact, we all know that Israel has to do that otherwise uh Israel would be at risk of not existing anymore as a state.
For the American people, Hezbollah
uh is not indigenous to Lebanon. They invaded Lebanon at the behest of Iran. They conquered effectively Lebanon. They assassinated the president of Lebanon.
They've taken over their government or at least parts of it. Uh the army there is not strong enough to stop them.
They're incapable of it, if not unwilling to do it.
And Hezbollah, let me ask you this, Dan Hoppin, has
slaughtered an awful lot of American soldiers and citizens, has it not?
Absolutely. Since going back to 1983 when they they bombed our embassy and and uh killed US Marines and other embassy employees, uh Marine barracks bombing.
Uh the strategy for Lebanon, I can tell you going back to my days serving as the director of the CIA's uh Middle East division, was to help build Lebanese armed forces capacity so that they could take the fight to his bala.
What Israel was doing was creating space for Lebanon to build that capacity because right now Lebanon essentially uh
is a terrorist sponsored state and Hisbala owns a good piece of it and that's what causes Israel to be at great risk. But not just Israel, it's US uh installations and our people in the region and beyond. And the last thing we want is for Hezbollah to emerge from any
