This morning, a growing revolt among Senate Republicans outraged over the president's new taxpayer fund to reward his allies who claimed they were mistreated by the Biden Justice Department.
Among those who could financially benefit from the $ 1.8 billion fund, those who stormed the capital and attacked police officers on January 6th.
>> I mean, my god, do you see where this would head? These people don't deserve restitution. They many of them deserve to be in prison.
Republicans are demanding answers and refusing to approve more funding for the president's immigration crackdown until they get them.
>> I don't know anything about anything.
>> Acting Attorney General Todd Blanch scrambling to the Hill for over two hours. Blanch getting an earful. Republicans yelling at him. Some of the president's most ardent supporters telling the acting attorney general that the president's fund will cost them the majority in the upcoming midterms.
In an attempt to pacify lawmakers. Blanch even suggesting in this fact sheet that senators could seek money from the fund themselves. But clear they were getting nowhere.
The Senate Republican leader abruptly cancelling the planned vote, sending everyone home for a week.
>> They'll have a good week.
>> In a blistering statement, Senator Mitch McConnell, the former Republican leader, saying, "So the nation's top law enforcement official is asking for a slush fund to pay people who assault cops. utterly stupid, morally wrong. Take your pick."
Now, President Trump was asked if he's losing his iron grip on the party and control of Senate Republicans. And he told reporters, quote, "I really don't know. I only do what's right." But guys, clearly many Senate Republicans disagree when it comes to this fund.
>> Yeah, I'm sure a lot of people saying right for who? That's probably a big question.
