A 25-year-old Salem man was arrested July 31 after smashing multiple car windows with a bat in the parking lot of a Winco Foods grocery store, Salem Police said. 
The man was charged with multiple counts of criminal mischief in the first degree. 
Police received multiple calls at about 9:35 a.m. about a man walking through the parking lot striking vehicle windows with a bat at 1240 Lancaster Drive SE. 
The man shattered and cracked several car windows, the agency said. 
Witnesses saw the man run into a nearby neighborhood and jump a fence in the 4600 block of Arabian Avenue SE. 
Officers arrested the man on Raffon Court SE and he was taken to the Marion County Jail. 
Police are asking people to report vehicle damage related to this incident online and reference case number SMP26063232. 
The investigation was ongoing.
