Only 23 governors have agreed to set up “Fostering the Future” accounts—Melania Trump's initiative aimed at supporting children’s education and long-term opportunity-building.
On Wednesday, the first lady wrote on X that only 23 governors have promised their support in Fostering the Future which was first established on November 13, 2025.
“Foster children are in all 50 states, but only 23 Governors have pledged to create Fostering the Future Accounts.
These accounts help foster youth save and invest, paving the way for financial independence,” the first lady wrote on X.
“It's crucial that our Governors protect these vulnerable children, ensuring they have the chance for a secure future.
Contact your Governor today and urge them to support Fostering the Future Accounts.
Act now.”
The first lady also shared a letter in her X post urging additional states to establish the accounts and emphasizing the importance of investing in America’s foster care system.
In the letter, she called on more governors to join the initiative, highlighting its potential to expand educational opportunities and promote long-term development for foster children.
“Twenty-three governors have already pledged to open accounts in their states before last week’s announcement from the U.S.
Department of the Treasury.
Please join them so that we can make Fostering the Future Accounts available in all 50 states across our great union,” the letter reads.
“Your support in this important effort will improve the lives of many foster children, and I hope I can count on you to help bring Fostering the Future Accounts to your state.”
