Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it conducted retaliatory strikes against Iranian targets in response to Thursday’s series of drone attacks on a commercial ship, revealing that American aircraft “struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites.”
U.S. strikes were reported near the Iranian port of Sirik shortly after the military announcement.
The Port of Sirik (Bandar Sirik) is a strategically vital maritime facility and IRGC naval base located on Iran’s southern coast in Hormozgan province, overlooking the Strait.
President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment with Tehran over the attack, calling it a “foolish violation” of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that was signed on June 17ª.
According to the president, American defense systems successfully intercepted three of the incoming drones, though a fourth managed to solidly strike the upper deck of the Singapore-registered cargo vessel, the *M/V Ever Lovely*.
Despite sustaining damage to its bridge, the ship was reported safe and able to proceed on its journey.
Vice President JD Vance took to X, revealing that “violence will be met with violence.”
CENTCOM emphasized that despite the sudden escalation, U.S. forces continue to provide safe passage coordination and support to commercial vessels transiting the strait.
