The United States and Iran have digitally signed a memo of understanding aimed at ending the war and allowing the details of the plan, which have not been released, to be negotiated.
President Donald Trump said Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Israel blasted the deal while trading strikes with Lebanon.
With the agreement signed, there has been some conflicting messaging from Washington and Tehran.
In a background call with reporters today, a senior U.S. official disputed claims by Iran that roughly $25 billion in frozen assets had already been released to Tehran.
At the same time, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian praised the deal as “an important step” toward ending the war and beginning negotiations.
But Pezeshkian also noted that a “final agreement has yet to take shape.”
Vice President JD Vance said this morning that the Strait of Hormuz will be toll free.
Iran has blocked the strait, a key oil transfer hub, for most vessels and charged tolls for transit through the waterway.
The closure has created a global economic crisis as oil and gas prices peak.
Trump is attending the Group of 7 summit today in France, where the preliminary deal will be a major part of the discussions among the member countries, including the U.S., Canada, Japan and European allies.
