Rep.
Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), 80, was hospitalized Sunday after being injured in a hit-and-run crash in Toledo while riding as a passenger in a vehicle headed to church.
Her office said she was “active, alert” and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Toledo police responded around 10:48 am to a “hit-skip” crash at Detroit Avenue and Central Avenue.
Police said two people, including Kaptur, were taken to a hospital, and investigators were working to identify the driver who fled.
Kaptur has represented Ohio’s 9th Congressional District since 1983 and is seeking an 18th term in Congress.
She is facing Republican Derek Merrin in the November election after narrowly defeating him in 2024, reports The Hill.
Merrin, Ohio Sen.
Jon Husted, Rep.
Andy Biggs, and Rep.
Warren Davidson were among lawmakers who expressed support and called for the driver responsible to be found.
This is a breaking news story.
