Flint-based program offers $5k to recent grads who stay in Genesee County 17%

FLINT, Mich.  The International Center of Greater Flint (ICGF), in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), has launched Genesee Future Forward, a new program designed to attract and retain recent college graduates in Genesee County. 
Supported by a $100,000 Make MI Home Program grant, the initiative aims to connect graduates with career opportunities in education, health care and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields while encouraging them to build long-term careers in the region. 
Eligible participants can receive a $5,000 incentive after securing full-time employment and committing to remain in Genesee County for at least two years. 
The program also includes opportunities focused on professional development, civic engagement and community connection. 
Applicants must meet the following criteria: 
Have a college degree or certification in education, health care or a STEM-related field. 
Have a new job or job offer within the past 12 months in one of those fields with an employer in Genesee County. 
Have relocated to Genesee County within the past 12 months, plan to relocate within the next six months or be a recent graduate of a Genesee County higher education program planning to remain in the area. 
Commit to living in Genesee County for at least 24 months. 
Have a valid work permit for at least 24 months after receiving the grant. 
The initiative is supported by a regional partnership that includes the University of Michigan-Flint, Kettering University, Mott Community College, the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation of Greater Flint and the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership. 
ICGF officials said the program is designed to strengthen the local workforce by helping recent graduates transition from college into careers while building connections within the community.
