Christopher Phillips has been sentenced to two years and four months in prison for storing his dead mother in a freezer and fraudulently claiming her benefits. 
He pleaded guilty to preventing the lawful and decent burial of his 89-year-old mother, Silvia Phillips, at their home in Porthcawl, Wales. 
Phillips also admitted to two counts of fraud, failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions and Bridgend County Borough Council of his mother's death. 
He continued to receive over £78,000 in benefits after his mother passed away on 8 March 2023. 
The cause of Silvia Phillips' death remains unknown, and her body was found in a chest freezer covered with a leopard print throw, roses, and a birthday card.
