Twenty-five years ago, the American filmmaker Michael Moore published *Stupid White Men*, a book that not only assails America’s ruling class, but also constitutes a wholesale slander of this particular demographic.
The chapter ‘Kill Whitey’ is devoted to deploring what Moore regards as the most execrable aspects of white American culture.
Despite being released shortly after the September 11 attacks of 2001, *Stupid White Men* proved a roaring success.
In retrospect, it heralded the shape of things to come, as did so many shifts apparent at the turn of the millennium: the emergence of identity politics, a culture of victimhood, a therapeutic turn in society and the consolidation of a complacent, globalist neoliberal consensus.
That spirit evolved into the monster of hyper-liberalism, which became a real force in the mid-part of the 2010s, a zeitgeist that remains with us today.
A quarter of a century later, this vilification of white men, largely at the behest of an affluent, white liberal Brahmin class, remains just as fashionable and formidable.
People like Moore – who brandish their liberal politics with ferocity, in order to achieve a kind of honorary, non-white status – continue to wreak destruction with their sickly, introspective narcissism.
This is why so many classical liberals, cultural conservatives and old-fashioned colour-blind humanists are utterly sick of them.
And this is why Katharine Birbalsingh’s speech at the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship in London last week was met with such widespread adulation.
It was a speech directed at an elite who instil in young people a sense of white guilt.
Birbalsingh, headmistress of the Michaela Community School in London, spoke of how ‘some of our young people have become… so consumed by white guilt that they will do crazy, irrational and inhumane things rather than risk being seen as racist… They have been taught to view people in two camps – those who are oppressed and those who are oppressors.’
As she concluded: ‘This is white guilt.
And we are the ones who have taught this to our children.’
The speech was received with such enthusiasm because it pointed to the real villains of the piece in recent history, those who are properly responsible for the rise of populist discontent.
It has never been ethnic minorities or immigrants *per se* who have been the objects of revulsion and anger.
It is wealthy, powerful white *bien-pensants*, the apologists for state-sponsored multiculturalism and the enablers of hyper-progressive ‘anti-racist’ and trans-rights ideologies, who have been responsible for the policies that have created so much discord and rancour.
Their *angélisme* – an otherworldly and naive idealism – has informed today’s corrosive and destabilising politics.
It has determined their belief that militant Islam can be appeased and reasoned with, while also shaping their conviction that all proletarian expressions of indigenous belonging, such as the hoisting of national flags, are essentially malign, pathological and ought to be suppressed.
Far from being a manifestation of compassion and humility, liberal white guilt is a form of showy self-regard.
Ostentatious displays of self-flagellation, as epitomised in that endless parade of *Guardian* articles by white people living in rich, ethnically homogenous parts of London who celebrate diversity, are essentially acts of vainglory.
Their primary purpose is to signal allegiance to an elite echelon while flaunting one’s morally self-aware superiority to an uncouth white working class and the unsophisticated, suburban readers of the *Daily Mail*.
Their navel-gazing peacocking has proved destructive because it has fostered resentment among both ethnic minorities and the white populace.
Among the former, it encourages further grievance, entrenching the misperception that the odds are forever stacked against them in this incurably racist nation.
Among the latter, it nurtures a deepened sense of victimhood among a majority population who, with good reason, now believe that they will be constantly traduced, given rough justice and discriminated against because of their wicked ‘whiteness’.
Such is the havoc being wreaked and hegemony exerted by our white liberals that, in a further irony, it has taken Katharine Birbalsingh – a mixed-race, New Zealand-born Brit, with an Indo-Guyanese father and a Jamaican mother – to tell us this terrible truth.
**Why do Remainers keep ignoring Europe’s lurch to the right?

While the class who’d have Britain return to the European Union remains mostly incurious or in denial about the woeful economic predicament of most of its members in the 10 years following Brexit (Germany has been dipping in and out of recession since 2022), the same Remainer coterie also seems uninterested in its perilous political condition.
At the Bundestag elections last year, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, an outfit that contains some genuinely far-right figures, came second, overtaking the Social Democratic Party and only narrowly losing out to the centre-right Christian Democratic Union.
Some now predict that in this September’s regional elections, the AfD could take control of its first state government, in the eastern region of Saxony-Anhalt.
Meanwhile, across the border, come the presidential election next April, there is the real possibility that the hard-right National Rally party will take power in France.
Are EU-philes interested in these developments?
Do they care that Roberto Vannacci’s ascendant ultra-right National Future party is set to hold the balance of power in Italy – a country already ruled by a reformed far-right outfit?
I doubt it.
This aloof and superficial Remainer elite has always been more ethereally attached to a vague ideal of an enlightened post-nationalist united Europe, rather than facing the reality of a grubby and undemocratic institution that has failed this great Continent – economically and politically.
**The failed racial utopia of Nueva Germania**
While we ought to commiserate with Germany on their loss to Paraguay in the World Cup, spare a thought for the estimated 150,000 Paraguayans of German descent, many of whom must have had some divided loyalties while watching the game on Monday.
The South American country was for generations a destination for Germans seeking a new start or fleeing religious persecution.
Many German communities were established there in the 19th and 20th centuries, including Hohenau in Itapúa and Independencia in Guairá.
While the ultra-conservative Mennonites settled in Chaco, where their community remains, the colony of Nueva Germania was founded in 1886 by Friedrich Nietzsche’s ultra-nationalist, anti-Semitic brother-in-law, Bernhard Förster.
His project of a racial utopia in the New World proved a failure, and following accusations of corruption related to the colony, in June 1889, Förster fatally poisoned himself.
Nietzsche never cared for his brother-in-law or his politics, and he would also have a dim view of the AfD party of today.
As he wrote in March 1885: ‘To enthusiasm for the “German national character” I have indeed attained very little, but even less the wish to keep this “glorious” race *pure*.
On the contrary, on the contrary…’
