Wildfire smoke from Canada has drifted into the Boston region, causing hazy skies and impacting air quality.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation and providing updates on the expected conditions.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Boston has indicated that the smoky conditions will keep temperatures moderate, in the 70s to lower 80s, despite the haze.
They also noted that another plume of smoke is expected to move into the region on Thursday, bringing similar conditions: hazy skies, reduced visibility, a drop in air quality, and a noticeable smell of smoke.
Meteorologists like Shiri Spear of Boston 25 News described the upcoming weather as a "weather ride ahead," with smoke expected on Thursday, followed by sun on Friday, and then showers on Saturday.
Kelly Ann Cicalese from WCVB also highlighted that thick smoke would return in the afternoon, reducing air quality and leading to an Air Quality Alert in effect until midnight.
She mentioned that improvements are expected overnight into Friday.
Chris Lambert of 7News observed "some more smoke in the mix today," with more smoke expected in the afternoon compared to the morning.
He noted that Friday's forecast looks great, with brighter skies as the smoke clears out for a day.
Lambert also mentioned that scattered showers and storms are possible on Saturday afternoon/night.
Eric Fisher of WBZ commented that the smoke is suppressing the convective potential and that as long as fires are burning in Canada, any winds from that region will blow plumes toward New England.
He doubts that Friday will be the last day dealing with smoke.
Dave Epstein noted that the smoky skies will continue for a while, but the "bonus is that we're not having to endure the heat."
He also found it incredible how temperatures remained steady all day due to the smoke, highlighting the impact of aerosols.
