Last week, President Trump invited Rick Harrison from the iconic TV series Pawn Stars to the podium during a small business summit at the White House to talk about how much of an impact it's had on his local shop.
>> I just want to say he's amazing. He's done so much. I mean, so much for all of us.
I mean, the backbone of this country is small business, plain and simple.
And the last guy in office, all he, you know, all we heard was is that we were the evil people.
We were the bad people. Everything else like that. We don't pay our fair share, whatever that's supposed to be.
Um, and he made it tough. And this guy, the big beautiful bill, absolutely amazing.
You know what I mean? God bless you for let me letting me get 100% appreciation.
It really helps out. Um, and uh, all I can say is this is literally I mean I'm a history buff and I know a lot about this White House thing and everything.
Literally, he's going to go down as maybe the best president ever. I love this guy.
>> And there's data to back that up. Look at this. There's 36 million small businesses in America, a record high.
The Small Business Administration delivered record capital to small businesses in fiscal year 2025 and launched the first ever dedicated loan program for small manufacturers.
Trump also signed the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which made the small business deduction permanent, and launched a deregulation strike force that has eliminated more than 110 billion in burdensome regulatory costs for small businesses.
Let's bring in Rick Harrison, star of the hit TV series Pawn Stars. Rick, great to have you.
You talked about the Biden administration seeing small business as evil, and I'm looking at your story.
Your dad started his first shop in 1981, a 300 foot shop. you began working there repossessing cars at night and you grew this enterprise.
Tell us about your story.
>> Um, no. I mean, I have uh altogether probably close to 80 employees uh with all the different businesses I own and I mean the regulatory burden is insane.
The tax system is crazy and he's making it better.
I mean like the you know full depreciation on uh on equipment is is a godsend to so many businesses.
Most people don't realize that you can have a business and you could make a million dollars, but you want to buy this great piece of machinery for a million dollars.
You buy the piece of machinery, you still owe $300,000 in taxes and you got nothing in the bank.
Um because you can't write off a big piece of machinery um in one year.
You can now um so that's really really going to help manufacturing, especially small manufacturing when um you know, you can literally look at a piece of machinery and say, "Hey, I can buy that. I can write the entire thing off and you know that's like a 37% discount."
So, uh it's going to help small manufacturers, it's going to help small businesses like me.
Um you know, you I own a restaurant. You know, we're going to buy a new uh you know, we need a new delivery truck this year.
So, um it's we would probably put it off another year or two, but now that we can write the whole thing off, let's buy it and let's, you know, um you know, make more money, make employees more money, make pay more taxes.
These things matter and they trickle down.
And I remember on the campaign trail, my dad calling me, he's a roofing and contracting owner, a business owner, and he has employees.
And he said when President Trump said no tax on overtime, he said, "I started hearing about it from my construction workers."
And we've watched that come from a dream, a novel dream to fruition.
What has that done for your business? No tax on overtime.
>> Um, yeah. Well, like, um, I don't run into a lot of overtime at the pawn shop, but at my bar and my restaurant, I do.
and they all absolutely love it. And there's no tax on the first $25,000 in tips which is really really huge.
I mean because like you there is a lot of uh you know there's a lot of single moms and things like that or their service workers and that just it it changes everything there.
No tax on tips especially in Nevada.
>> Yeah. And you're in Las Vegas. That's one thing I'm interested in because there seems to be a late recognition of what Trump has done in saying that tax season you know it just came.
Are people starting to realize, oh wow, you know, this burden's being lifted, especially in a place like Las Vegas that depends on tips.
>> Um I um you know, because I'm real friendly with all my employees and uh they have literally I've had at least 10 employees tell me that um their tax return was kind of a you know, they considered it astronomical.
It was like twice as what it normally is. And um it just helps out.
I mean like you know the fact you know the fact of the matter is less governments you know less taxes people let people figure out what they're going to do and um by themselves and you know their lives are going to be better because I I've said this a million times uh the Democratic party really wants to decide what's best for you and I think everybody knows what's best for them and they don't need a government to tell them.
