Breaking news, two strong earthquakes hit just west of Venezuela's capital today.
You can see emergency workers right now they're climbing the ruins of one collapsed building.
Scientists are estimating high casualties and extensive damage due to the earthquakes, but we haven't received any concrete numbers just yet.
The USGS says the first quake measured a 7.1 and a stronger second quake hit just a minute later.
That one registered as a magnitude 7.5.
BBC's Vanessa Silva has the latest from Caracas.
>> I'm in the center of the city of Caracas, where a lot of buildings are without power electricity after the earthquake that hit the north of Venezuela around 6:00 in the afternoon today.
A lot of people are trying to look how to go back to their homes.
The metro system is completely closed, all the stations.
So, it was just at the time that people were getting out of the works before even that today is a holiday day here in Caracas, Venezuela.
All the structures shake very strong in the capital.
In my home, I can see how many things fell down and broken.
In my building, a neighborhood, uh one of my neighbors, she fell down and um um broke her arms.
Uh I don't know at this moment if how many victims are, uh but we can see videos coming from social media, from infrastructure collapses in the city.
And the news will be coming out in the next hours.
>> All right, that coming from BBC News.
These back-to-back earthquakes.
Now, here's another look at emergency workers.
They are actually combing through all of the debris.
You can see them doing that right now.
The quakes are among the strongest to strike Venezuela in more than a century.
We'll continue our coverage throughout CBS News 24/7.
