NV Energy plans to reschedule or cancel multiple power outages planned in Reno this week, due to a heat wave hitting the region, according to the National Weather Service.
Nearly 900 residents in northwest Reno near Kings Row were expected to experience a seven-hour planned power outage from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wednesday, according to NV Energy's outage map.
Other scattered outages were also planned across Reno this week, ranging from roughly six to eight hours of no power, expected to effect around 400 residents.
However, NV Energy said some of the outages were scheduled before current heat conditions developed.
Now that there is a heat advisory in effect, the company said they decided to cancel or reschedule the sustained planned outages that were supposed to occur during peak heat hours.
"Our customers' safety and well-being come first.
Canceling or rescheduling outages during the hottest parts of the day helps ensure customers, particularly seniors, individuals with disabilities, those who work from home, and anyone relying on air conditioning, can continue to access electric service during this period of extreme heat," NV Energy said in an email statement Tuesday afternoon.
The company said planned outages are necessary to safely complete repairs, perform maintenance and make system improvements.
NV Energy said the repairs and outages that are rescheduled may be performed overnight or during other cooler periods when conditions allow.
"Because outage schedules may be adjusted in response to weather conditions, the information currently shown on the outage map may change as our team updates schedules and notifications.
Customers who were scheduled to be impacted will be notified directly if their outage has been postponed or rescheduled," the statement said.
NV Energy also encourages residents to always be prepared for emergencies and unplanned outages.
Residents can visit the NV Energy website at nvenergy.com for tips.
The heat advisory is in effect from Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Sunday.
Highs are expected to reach 95 to 103 degrees, with overnight lows in the mid-60s.
