The estate is located near the Tryon International Equestrian center and is about 45 minutes from Asheville and Greenville.
Traveling through Tryon, North Carolina, visitors often hear the name Carter Brown, the historical figure credited with establishing the area as an equestrian destination in the mid-1920s.
Brown, who founded the Tryon Riding and Hunt Club in 1925 and the Tryon Horse Show in 1926, is also known for work on The Hayloft, a historic estate currently listed for $2.6 million.
The property includes multiple barns and 24 acres of pasture.
The romantic estate built in 1946 is located at 777 South River Road.
Brown's craftsmanship is evident in the hand-hewn beams that have endured for eight decades, as well as the heart pine flooring and paneled walls.
Neighboring estates built by Brown include The Bird Chimney next door, Blackberry Farm across the road, and The Cotton Patch.
Homeowner Flavia Hiatt has lived in the home for four years with her son, Dominick, daughter, Chloe, and horses, Blueberry and Moonshine.
She said she has enjoyed her time in the equestrian sanctuary but plans to move back to the West Coast to be closer to family in California once the home is sold.
"The house was designed, built by Carter Brown, which is the founder of Tryon.
He was an equestrian businessman also, from Michigan.
And he met his friends from Michigan ― they used to come over here in the winter when it was cold in Michigan to ride horses.
So he created this area with all the homes that he built and also the trail system, which goes over 157 miles.
[It] is the largest trail system in the country," said Hiatt.

The Hayloft has six bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
The great room's vaulted ceilings and spiral open-riser staircase adds to the openness of the room.
"The magic of this property is that it still feels authentic.
The recent upgrades brought the kitchen, baths, systems, and livability forward, but the soul of the house was not polished away.
That is a very hard balance to strike," said Damian Hall, managing director at Blackstream/Christie's International Real Estate.
Hayloft is about 45 minutes away from Asheville, Greenville and Spartanburg, and 30 minutes away from Hendersonville.
"Tryon's Hunting Country has always attracted people who value privacy, land, horses, and a certain understated way of life," said Hall.
"The Hayloft captures all of that in one property."

Homes in Tryon sold for a median price of $485,000 in June, according to Movoto.
Properties in the area sold on an average of 86 days on the market compared to 76 days in the previous year.
