A recent Reuters/Ipsos survey reveals widespread public dissatisfaction with the outcome of the Iran war, with only 24% of Americans believing the conflict was worth its cost.
Furthermore, just 23% feel the U.S. is in a stronger position with Iran now, while a plurality of 35% contend the U.S. is weaker.
Despite these concerns, 63% of respondents, including a majority of Republicans, anticipate the truce between the two nations will hold.
This sentiment coincides with a dip in President Trump’s approval rating to 34%, a new low for his second term.
A separate CBS poll echoed these findings, showing only 31% thought the conflict was worth the costs and 37% believed the recent agreement favored Iran.
The U.S. and Iran recently signed a memorandum of understanding to cease military hostilities, with a final agreement expected within 60 days, reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Iran has threatened to re-close the strait due to Israeli actions in Lebanon, which it views as a violation.
Critics argue the deal falls short of Trump's stated goals, particularly regarding Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, though Trump has softened his stance on the latter and claims regime change through targeted killings.
