Israel’s Foreign Ministry and the grassroots organization October Council solemnly marked 1,000 days since the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led terrorist attack on southern Israel, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people and the abduction of hundreds of hostages.
Families acknowledged the somber day with memorials, marches and protests across the country hosted by the October Council, which describes itself as an Israeli activist group of grieving families, Hamas attack survivors and former hostages.
The October Council, which has significantly condemned the Israeli government’s “failure to prevent the Hamas invasion and its refusal to form a state commission of inquiry,” began the ceremony precisely at 6:29 a.m., the exact time the attack broke out 1,000 days earlier.
The council called for a nationwide moment of silence at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. presentation of 1,000 personal items that belonged to those killed or kidnapped on Oct.

In a statement posted on X, Israel’s Foreign Ministry recognized the attacks and massive loss for the region, while celebrating the “resilience,” of the community.
“1,000 days ago, at 6:29 a.m., Hamas terrorists invaded southern Israel, massacred over 1,200 people and abducted hundreds into Gaza.
They thought they could break Israel.
They were wrong,” the ministry wrote on X.
“Israelis rebuilt communities, replanted fields, reopened schools, launched new businesses, revived tourism, advanced science, treated patients, created art, celebrated weddings, and brought life back where terror tried to erase it.
Israel answered hatred with resilience, destruction with rebuilding, and terror with life.
Despite every challenge, Israel rises.”
On Thursday, United States Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, encouraged people to “never forget” the victims of the horrific attack.
“1000 days ago, Hamas monsters stormed out of Gaza & into Israel & massacred 1200 men, women & children-butchering them viciously taking 251 people hostage,” Huckabee wrote on X.
“We should never forget the victims & should keep asking ‘how did such a thing happen?’
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also held a summit on Monday marking the 1,000 days of fighting in the War of Redemption, which was launched in response to the Oct. 7 massacre.
At the conference, IDF Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir stated that the October 7th invasion was “an attack on the very existence of the Jewish people.”
The meeting opened with a moment of silence for the 964 soldiers who were killed the morning of the terror attack.
A recording of the late Colonel Asaf Hamami declaring war roughly 30 minutes after the invasion was played next — as part of the ceremony.
“That memory requires us to continue to change, to draw and assimilate lessons in the regional learning race,” he said.
On that tragic day, in 2023, roughly 6,000 armed Palestinian terrorists stormed into southern Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people, injuring thousands and taking 251 hostages.
