President Donald Trump’s disapproval rating has hit a record high, six months before the midterm elections as Americans reject his war with Iran and worry about rising costs, including gas prices, a new polls shows. 
The Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, conducted online between April 24-28, found Trump’s general approval rating sits around 37%, slightly less than his 39% level in February. 
But his disapproval rating has reached 62%, the worst of both of his terms in office. 
While Trump’s approval among Republicans has largely remained unchanged, his rating among Republican-leaning independents has sunk to an all-time low of 56%. 
Trump’s weak approval ratings spell danger for Republicans ahead of the midterm elections in November. 
The GOP currently holds a razor-thin majority in the House and faces tough races to maintain control of the Senate. 
The new poll shows Democrats hold a five-point advantage on which party people favor in House elections — up from their two-point advantage in February and October. 
That leverage grows to nine points among registered voters who say they are “absolutely certain to vote.” 
Asked about the “situation with Iran,” 66% of respondents said they disapprove of Trump’s handling of the war, while only 33% approve. 
The president’s rating on the economy dropped to 34% amid rising gas prices. 
On the general cost of living, which Trump promised during his presidential campaign to bring down, 76% disapprove of his handling of the issue, with 23% approving. 
On his handling of inflation, 72% of Americans disapprove. 
The poll coincides with news that Spirit Airlines shut down, with the popular low-cost airline citing the rising cost of fuel as one reason for its demise. 
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that Americans will feel “immediate relief” once the Strait of Hormuz, a vital trade passageway, opens and “supply flows again.” 
Trump receives his highest approval ratings in the new poll on the question of his handling of the “immigration situation at the U.S.-Mexico border,” with 45% approving and 54% disapproving. 
As for immigration in general, 40% approve and 59% disapprove. 
The White House did not immediately respond to MS NOW’s request for comment on the poll.
