Soccer fans heading to Tuesday's France vs.
Senegal World Cup match may need to rethink their travel plans.
All 12,000 tickets for the official shuttle buses serving New York New Jersey Stadium have sold out, according to FIFA's New York New Jersey Host Committee, leaving many fans to travel by NJ Transit rail service or rideshare options such as Uber and Lyft.
Tens of thousands of people, including visitors from outside the United States, are expected to travel to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, which FIFA has temporarily renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament.
More than 80,000 fans attended Saturday's Brazil-Morocco match, the first World Cup game played at the venue.
According to the host committee, about 16,000 fans used the official shuttle buses, while others arrived via NJ Transit, rideshare services and other transportation options.
But by Monday afternoon, all 12,000 round-trip shuttle tickets for Tuesday's match had sold out.
"For fans who have not yet finalized their travel plans, NJ TRANSIT remains the fastest way to get to and from New York New Jersey Stadium," said Alex Lasry, CEO of the FIFA World Cup 2026 New York New Jersey Host Committee.
"We encourage all remaining fans to take NJ TRANSIT so you can be in your seat in time for kick off."
The price difference between the two options is significant.
The official round-trip shuttle bus service costs $20 and departs from locations in Manhattan and New Jersey.
A round-trip World Cup train ticket from New York Penn Station to the stadium costs about $100.
NJ Transit told Gothamist it had sold 14,175 tickets for Tuesday's match as of 2:30 p.m.
Monday, about 20% ahead of sales at the same point before Saturday's Brazil-Morocco game.
The transit agency planned for up to 40,000 rail passengers per World Cup match.
On Saturday, NJ Transit said it carried roughly 21,500 fans to and from the stadium.
