CASPER, Wyo. — Special Olympics Wyoming’s annual Summer Sports Classic in Casper is fast approaching, and the nonprofit is looking for volunteers to help ensure things run smoothly.
The competition is scheduled for July 31 and Aug. 1, featuring competitions in golf, bowling, cycling, bocce and softball.
According to a Special Olympics Wyoming release, at time of publication there is a need for volunteers to assist in tasks like keeping score, umpiring, assisting with softball skills stations and helping with awards presentations.
Those interested in volunteering can register through the organization’s website or by calling the Special Olympics Wyoming office at 307-235-3062.
The event begins Friday, July 31, with the Unified Sports Golf Tournament at the Casper Municipal Golf Course, where the first tee time is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
Bowling competitions will also take place that day at El Mark-O Lanes, with a morning session starting at 9 a.m. and an afternoon session expected to begin at approximately 1 p.m.
Competition is scheduled to resume Aug. 1 at 9:30 a.m. with bocce and softball events at the North Casper Softball Complex, while cycling events are scheduled for Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park along the Cottonwood Shelter loop.
Ahead of the Saturday events, the community is invited to support local law enforcement officers as they participate in the Casper leg of the Wyoming Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Officers will carry the Special Olympics Wyoming “Flame of Hope,” beginning at around 8:25 a.m. at the Casper Police Department, 201 N.
David St.
They are then expected to arrive at the North Casper Softball Complex by 9 a.m.
