ROGERS PARK — After a three-year closure, Rogers Park’s New 400 Theater is reopening this month under a new owner who is reviving Chicago’s oldest movie palace.

Sheridan Road, is opening July 31, the business announced Tuesday.
The first movies to be shown at the theater include “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and “I Want Your Sex,” both of which have July 31 premieres, according to a Facebook post from the theater .
Tickets for those screenings and others will be on sale in person and on its website around July 27, the business said.
The ticket prices, plus a $1.50 fee for buying online and tax, will be:
$11 for evening shows
$8.50 for afternoon shows
$6 for children 11 years and younger
Theater owner Jordan Stancil announced last year he was taking on the shuttered New 400 Theaters and planned to reopen as The 400 Theater, Block Club previously reported .
Stancil is the operator of three movie houses in Michigan, including the Rialto Theater in Grayling, Michigan, which his family has owned since 1915, he said previously.
The New 400 closed in 2023 , ending a 111-year-run that made it the oldest movie theater in the city and one of its last independent cinemas.
Its former owner, who also owns the retail strip the theater occupies, said at the time he would look to find a new operator for the theater, but the space sat dormant since its closure.
Stancil told Block Club in December he was looking forward to reviving the movie house and planned to bring new projection technology and a diverse range of programs.
“What I really care about a lot is the movie theater experience for the people watching the movie,” he said previously.
“There shouldn’t be any compromise for your moviegoing experience when you go to The 400 Theater.”
The theater will have about five new releases a month along with around 30 other titles, according to an FAQ from the theater.
There will also be reserved seating, and, eventually, alcohol will be served.
The New 400 Theaters closed in 2023 after a 111-year run.

Built in 1912, the ornate building was home to a theater and movie house for 111 years, showcasing everything from vaudeville to first-runs of the latest releases.
Throughout its history , the theater has been known as Regent Theater and the 400 Theater, with “400” being a reference to catering to the most upper-crust crowds.
The name remained for over 65 years and, in 2009, it became The New 400.
Tony Fox bought the retail building housing the New 400 in 2007.
He took over operation of the theater in 2009, after its then-owner stopped paying rent for more than a year.
The pandemic caused serious issues for the theater, and it pivoted to stay afloat by offering private theater rentals, selling concessions on its patio and by operating as a coronavirus testing center .
The New 400 reopened in 2021, having survived two global pandemics a century apart .
But business never rebounded from the pandemic, Fox told Block Club previously.
In March 2023, the Loyola Phoenix student newspaper broke the news the theater was likely to close.
Fans flocked to the theater in an effort to keep the lights on.
The Silent Film Society of Chicago hosted screenings of silent horror films and donated the majority of ticket proceeds to the 400 to try to keep it going, but it wasn’t enough.
