The House of Representatives cancelled its votes scheduled for Friday as some Republicans opposed all votes until the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act passes.
Republican Florida Rep.
Anna Paulina Luna and others vowed to oppose all floor action until the Senate passes the SAVE America Act.
The chamber canceled rules votes scheduled for Wednesday afternoon and cannot proceed without these rules.
“Members are advised that votes are no longer expected in the House on Friday, June 26th,” House Majority Whip Tom Emmer said.
“The last vote for this week is expected at approximately 1:00 p.m. this afternoon.
This is a change from the previously announced schedule.”
The House remained committed to voting on a suspension bill Thursday before leaving for the week.
Luna signed a letter with 24 other members pledging to vote against any Senate-passed bills unless they passed the SAVE America Act.
These members included Republican Reps.
Chip Roy and Brandon Gill of Texas, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Warren Davidson of Ohio and Byron Donalds of Florida.
“Myself and 24 other members have signed a letter pledging to vote NO on any Senate bills unless SAVE America is passed,” Luna said Monday.
“Now, the Senate is sending a housing package to the House, and to honor my pledge I will oppose it unless SAVE America is attached.
The Senate cannot keep obstructing President Trump’s agenda while ignoring election integrity.
I call on my fellow colleagues to stand firm and honor their pledge.”
The SAVE America Act would require voters to provide proof of citizenship and identification before casting a ballot.
Luna vowed to end her blockade if House Speaker Mike Johnson committed to attaching the SAVE America Act to Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) or the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
Republican Florida Rep.
Byron Donalds railed against the Senate for not passing the SAVE America Act.
“The Senate sucks, I’m just gonna come out and say it, they suck,” Donalds said.
“This is not hard. 80% of the American people want the SAVE America Act to pass.
Not 80% of Republicans, 80% of the American people.
And the only organization that refused to act is the United States Senate.
Everyone else is saying this is common sense, we should do common sense things.
Let’s make sure that only Americans are voting in our elections.
Makes sense, right?
Let’s protect the franchise of the American people, let’s make sure that the people who are sent to Washington are being voted on by Americans  And what is happening in the U.S.
Senate is laziness and quite frankly, it’s disgusting.”
President Donald Trump cancelled the signing of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act Wednesday until the SAVE America Act was passed.
Thirty-two House Republicans, including Luna, voted against its passage in the House.
Johnson will meet with Trump Thursday in an attempt to calm the situation, a source familiar told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Trump pressured Senate Republicans to pass the SAVE America Act by eliminating the filibuster or attaching it to another piece of legislation.
Republican Sens.
Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky voted against attaching the SAVE America Act to the immigration enforcement reconciliation bill that Trump signed into law on June 10.
Trump said he would oppose reauthorizing Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) if the SAVE America Act was not attached.
