President Donald Trump.
This act would allow states to enact daylight saving time year-round if they so choose.
Should the bill pass and Arkansas make the switch, it would change things for citizens.
At some points during the winter, the average sunrise will be at 8:30 a.m.
Meaning children will board the school bus in the dark and arrive at school before the sun comes up.
On the flip side of that, the sun will set around 6 p.m. giving individuals some daylight time at home in the evening.
This topic has been a debated issue for years.
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, state legislatures have considered more than 800 bills and resolutions to establish year-round daylight saving time.
In the last seven years, 19 states have enacted legislation to provide for year-round daylight saving time.
Currently, Congress does not allow full-time daylight saving time.
A passing of the bill on the Federal level will allow the laws in those states to take effect.
States that have passed a bill include: Alabama; Colorado; Delaware; Georgia; Idaho; Kentucky; Louisiana; Maine; Mississippi, Minnesota; Montana; Ohio; Oklahoma; Oregon; South Carolina; Tennessee; Texas; Utah; and Wyoming.
There are some nuances to some of the state’s bills.
Arizona and Hawaii and five American territories observe permanent standard time and do not switch to daylight saving time.
