CAMPOBELLO — Authorities have found the skeletal remains of a woman who was reported missing in late June.
Tamara Nicole “Nicki” Evans, 39, was reportedly last seen at noon June 26 leaving a residence on Melvin Hill Road, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
She was staying at a residence on that road, a recent news release from the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office said.
On Aug. 3, during an investigation into Evans’ disappearance, the sheriff’s violent crimes unit found human remains in a wooded area off Melvin Hill Road, said a separate news release from the sheriff’s office.
The remains, which Spartanburg Coroner Rusty Clevenger characterized as “skeletal,” have been identified as Evans’.
“The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office extends its deepest condolences to Ms.
Evans' family and loved ones during this difficult time,” officials said in the news release.
The investigation is still active, the sheriff’s office said.
More information was not immediately released.
Similarly, the coroner’s office said it would be following up with more details from the investigation in the days and weeks to come, before a ruling is made on the manner of death.
Because the remains were skeletonized, an anthropology exam has been planned, Clevenger said.
“I ask you keep the family and friends of Mrs.
Evans in your thoughts and prayers during their time of loss and grief,” he said.
