Since Buster Posey shocked the industry and took over as the Giants’ president of baseball operations in October 2024, nothing has gone according to plan. 
Posey’s tenure has been a disappointment to fans who hoped the three-time World Series champion could turn the team into a contender. 
Instead, after an 81-81 season in 2025, San Francisco owns one of the worst records in the majors and is again poised to trade away top performers at this year’s trade deadline. 
This weekend’s MLB draft and the Aug. 3 trade deadline offer Posey and GM Zack Minasian chances to improve the franchise’s outlook and lay the foundation for a turnaround. 
It could take years before the Giants are contending for a postseason berth again, but smart moves over the next month could speed up an otherwise painful process.
