FLORENCE — It’s that time of year again for Pee Dee tennis fans.
Florence’s only professional tournament that draws nearly 65 of the world’s best women players to town is returning to Florence.
The McLeod for Health Florence Open will begin the week of July 27 at the Dr.
Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
"Florence residents have a great opportunity to come out and see several of the sport’s future stars,” Tournament Director Jonathan Barth said in a statement.
“This tournament has a great history of containing future Grand Slam champions such as Bianca Andreescu, Sofia Kenin and Naomi Osaka.”
The United States Tennis Association Pro Circuit features competitive matches between tennis’s rising athletes.
The McLeod for Health Florence Open will feature a 32-draw qualifying round, a 32-draw main round and a Pro-Am event.
Qualifying rounds begin at 10 a.m. on July 27.
Feature matches will be held daily throughout the week at noon.
The doubles, finals and singles semi-finals are scheduled for Aug. 1, and the singles finals will be held Aug.

The singles final match and trophy presentation on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. will wrap up the tournament.
All matches are free and open to the public.
Players will be competing for ranking points and a $30,000 purse.
The professional tennis tournament also serves as a fundraiser, benefiting women in the region with mammogram scholarships and raising awareness about breast cancer and physical activity, the release said.
The McLeod for Health Florence Open has raised $63,000 for breast cancer awareness, education and screenings since the tournament began in 2014.
The open is made possible due to a partnership between the city of Florence and McLeod Health, the tournament’s presenting sponsor.
As one of the smallest cities on the The United States Tennis Association Pro Circuit, Florence was selected to host the tennis tournament because of its world-class courts, strong volunteer base and the generosity of its sponsors, the release said.
McLeod Health is deeply committed to the early identification and treatment of breast cancer, according to the release.
McLeod Health works with the McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research and the McLeod Health Foundation to provide mammogram scholarships to women in need of assistance for the important annual screening.
The city is currently in its design phase of a $3 million project that would add 10 more tennis courts to the Dr.
Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
There is no official timeline on the project yet, according to previous The Post and Courier reporting, but construction could begin as early as this fall.
