Trump slams SCOTUS after justices decline to hear E.
Jean Carroll appeal
OAN Staff Lillian Mann
6:26 PM  Monday, June 29, 2026
The United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS) on Monday rejected President Donald Trump’s bid to overturn a New York jury’s $5 million verdict finding him liable for the alleged mid-1990s sexual abuse and defamation of former columnist E.
Jean Carroll.
The Supreme Court’s refusal to hear the appeal leaves the $5 million civil judgment intact, despite Trump's continued assertions that he never met Carroll and his dismissals of the legal action on Truth Social as a "fake case."
The underlying lawsuit stemmed from Carroll’s accusations that Trump allegedly sexually abused her in a Manhattan department store dressing room in the mid-1990s and subsequently defamed her when she went public.
In a separate 2024 Manhattan federal trial, a different jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million for subsequent defamatory statements Trump made while in office  a second verdict that Trump is currently appealing in lower courts.
As is customary, the justices did not disclose their reasoning for denying the president's request to review the case.
In their petition to the high court, Trump's defense attorneys argued that the original $5 million verdict was tainted by "highly inflammatory" evidentiary rulings.
Trump has consistently denied the allegations.
His legal team also contended that the ongoing litigation distracts from his current executive duties.
“This mistreatment of a President cannot be allowed to stand,” Attorney Justin D.
Smith wrote in court documents.
The former advice columnist, Carroll, 82, first testified during a 2023 trial claiming that Trump turned a chance encounter in the spring of 1996 into a "violent" sexual assault in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman  the luxury department store across the street from Trump Tower in Manhattan.
“Surprisingly, the Supreme Court declined to “review” a Fake Case brought against me by a woman I never met (Decades old celebrity photo line, standing with her husband, does not count!).
I will continue the fight against this Weaponization and Lawfare Case against me, including the ridiculous claim of Defamation, with all of my power and strength,” Trump wrote in the post.
“This Case is really against the United States of America, and all it stands for, and should never be allowed to happen to another President, or Candidate to be!
New York State created a Law, for an instant speck of time, going back many decades, in order to wrongfully “nab” me.
It was tailormade, and this Injustice cannot be allowed to stand!
Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
