The U.S.
State Department announced that it will issue a limited edition U.S. passport featuring President Donald Trump’s likeness and signature on the inside cover to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
The idea of the passport was under consideration for months before finally getting approved.
The Washington, D.C., passport office will have between 25,000-30,000 new passports available to applicants starting shortly before July 4th.
“As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. passports to commemorate this historic occasion,” said State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott.
“These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. passport the most secure documents in the world,” he added.
The current U.S. passport design honors American history through a blend of iconic imagery and influential words.
Visually, the document features portraits and historical depictions of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln  most notably via a representation of Mount Rushmore.
Beyond these figures, the pages also showcase quintessential American landmarks and symbols, including the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall, alongside sweeping vistas of the Great Plains, rugged mountain ranges, and tropical islands.
To reinforce the nation’s ideals, the passport also incorporates notable quotations from leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, John F.
Kennedy, and Dwight D.
Eisenhower.
“It is the department’s honor to showcase the America the Beautiful pass honoring America’s 250th anniversary and the generations who have protected our lands,” said Secretary Doug Burgum in a video posted on the department’s website.
“President Trump’s new patriotic passport design provides yet another great way Americans can join in the spectacular celebrations for America’s 250th birthday,” said a White House spokesperson.
“President Trump continues to proudly lead a renewal of national pride and patriotism during our historic semiquincentennial celebration,” the spokesperson added.
