The Houston Toy Museum will close its location in the Heights at the end of the summer, the business announced on Wednesday.
The museum opened at 21 West 19th Street, Suite C, in 2022 as the dream of toy collector Matt Broussard and his wife, Sara.
A specific closing date was not listed in the announcement.
A COLLECTORS DREAM: Houston's new Toy Museum, opening in the Heights, promises to spark nostalgia
"After a great deal of thought and many sleepless nights, we've made the incredibly difficult decision to close our doors at the end of the summer," according to the Facebook and Instagram announcement.
"This is not what we envisioned as the ending to our time on 19th Street and it comes with a lot of sadness."
The announcement said the rising expenses of owning a small business and rent in the building became unsustainable.
However, the post said while there will not be a storefront, the Houston Toy Museum is not disappearing.
"This is a pause, not an ending.
We plan to continue to be an active part of the community through our LEGO events, interactive pop-ups and future collaborations," according to the announcement.
Matt Broussard launched his collection of toys around two decades ago in the apartment above his garage in the Heights.
VIDEO NOSTALGIA: Misfit Toys in the Heights opens a video store, Lost and Found, for fans of physical media
He had a dream of showing people his toys for a living and the Houston Toy Museum was born.
He told the Chronicle in 2022 that his toys numbered in the thousands.
"We are deeply proud of what we have built and have no regrets," according to the museum's announcement.
"What started as a daydream became a space filled with joy, nostalgia, creativity, connection and community."
They hope to find a home for the museum again in the future.
The museum's Facebook page lists a Custom Toy Show for Saturday and Junk Journal Workshop for Sunday.
