Skyview Drive-In movie theater is more than just a place for affordable entertainment.
For many, it’s a place where tradition and nostalgia meet.
But after almost 80 years of being owned and operated by the same family, it’s now for sale.
According to Prestige Realty Group’s Gerry Davidson, the drive-in will not be shutting down.
Instead, the family is looking for someone to “carry the legacy forward.”
“The current ownership and his family have poured decades of love into this venue, and they are ready to hand the keys to someone who will cherish this business and its community legacy as much as their family has,” Davidson wrote in a Facebook post.
According to Strano & Associates Real Estate, Skyview’s asking price is $975,000.
Wesley, Frank and Tom Bloomer opened the drive-in in 1949.
When it first opened, it could fit up to 900 cars, and admission was 60 cents.
Fast forward almost 80 years, through price and capacity changes, and the Bloomer family is still in charge.
The current owner, Steve Bloomer, has owned and operated Skyview since 2010.
Steve is Frank Bloomer’s grandson.
There are fewer than 350 operational drive-ins left in the United States.
Skyview, located at 5700 N.
Belt West in Belleville, is one of the last remaining drive-ins in the St.
Louis area.
USA Today named Skyview the No. 1 drive-in movie theater in 2024 and 2025.
This year, it ranked No.
5.
The drive-in operates seasonally, opening in late March or early April and running until October.
Patrons tune in to an FM radio channel and enjoy both new movie releases and older favorites from the comfort of their cars.
Recently released horror films “Backrooms” and “Obsession” are among the films now showing at Skyview.
Admission is $13 for adults and free for children under 12.
Movies begin at dusk.
Skyview is open every day except Monday and Tuesday.
According to Davidson, it will continue operating while the family looks for new ownership.
“The current family is simply ready to pass the torch while operations continue seamlessly night after night.”
