A man was shot and killed early Sunday near Lake Merritt, prompting a police pursuit that ended without any arrests, according to Oakland police sources.
The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was found suffering from a gunshot wound around 2:50 a.m. on the 1400 block of Lakeside Drive, near 14th Street, after officers responded to ShotSpotter gunfire detection alerts, the sources said.
Officers chased a white BMW sport utility vehicle speeding away from the scene, but were unable to catch the driver, according to the sources.
A video posted to the Citizen app by a bystander shortly before 4 a.m. showed police lights flashing along the lake, near the Lake Chalet Seafood Bar and Grill.
Authorities have not released the name of the victim or other details about the shooting.
The Oakland Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The shooting marked Oakland’s 29th homicide of the year.
