Casper man serving 8 to 10 years for stabbing teen now charged with sexual assault from June 2025 4%

A Casper man sentenced in January to eight to 10 years in prison for stabbing a teen multiple times in April 2025 is now charged with a reported sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl while he was on bond in that case last summer.
Evan Jason Kirkendall, now 20, was transported from the Wyoming State Penitentiary to hear the first-degree sexual assault charge on July 14, 2026 .
The charge carries a penalty of five to 50 years in prison.
He is presumed innocent unless found or pleading guilty.
The Casper Police Department responded to Banner Wyoming Medical Center shortly before 5 a.m on June 19, 2025, where the girl was undergoing a sexual assault exam.
She named Kirkendall as the suspect, the affidavit said.
Shortly after noon that same day, police were called to a disturbance at the girl’s house, where Kirkendall had returned and reportedly been confronted by the girl’s father.
Kirkendall himself reportedly called police after running out of the house, saying the man had held a gun to his head and accused him of raping his daughter, according to the report.
The girl later told Children’s Advocacy Project investigators that she had only recently met Kirkendall and found him polite, though others had warned her about him being involved in a stabbing.
Both Kirkendall and the girl told police he had brought pints of vodka to be shared with others who were present in the basement of her parent’s home.
She said that by midnight, it was just the two of them in the basement and she began falling asleep.
She said she heard Kirkendall ask her if she was awake and she didn’t respond.
She said she knew “for sure” that Kirkendall should have known she was asleep, as she did not respond or give any form of consent before Kirkendall allegedly pulled her pants down and subjected her to intercourse, according to the summary of her statements in the affidavit.
Knowing about the stabbing, she said she froze and was afraid to stop him.
A detective began interviewing Kirkendall at the station by 1 p.m. on the day of the disturbance.
As the interview progressed, another detective got a warrant to collect evidence from Kirkendall’s body.
Kirkendall reportedly told police at first that he had been drunk and ingesting 7OH-Kratom products, which he said affected his memory.
Kirkendall reportedly gave more details as the interrogation progressed, and the detective told him Kratom was not known to affect memory.
Lab results from both Kirkendall and the girl came back in October 2025 and showed Kirkendall had tested negative for alcohol, according to the affidavit.
Swabs from his penis reportedly showed “very strong” statistical support for the presence of the girl’s DNA, while there was insufficient male DNA from the cervical swab to process, the affidavit said.
Though Kirkendall is still in custody on the aggravated assault conviction, a $50,000 cash-only bond was set in the sexual assault case.
Kirkendall waived his preliminary hearing in circuit court this week, and is expected to enter a formal plea in district court in the coming months.
