Prior to competing in his first TD Beach to Beacon 10k, Habtom Samuel said he had a pair of goals: Break the course record and win the race. 
Samuel fell short of the course record on a beautiful Saturday morning, but he accomplished his second goal by winning the race in 27 minutes, 40 seconds. 
Samuel, of Eritrea, a country in the Horn of Africa, edged Patrick Kiprop by eight seconds. 
Pamela Kosgei of Kenya won the women’s race in 31:51. 
Saturday marked her first road race, but she did win the 10,000 meters in 2025 while at the University of New Mexico. 
Miguel Jimenez-Vergara won the men’s wheelchair division in 22:36, while Hoda Elshorbagy won the women’s wheelchair divison (26:25). 
Ruth White of Orono earned the Maine women’s title (34:05) while Alec Troxell of Portland took home the Maine men’s title in 29:15.
