Sunset Village, a new multi-purpose space at 4114 Judah St. at 46th Avenue, is closer to its official opening, said Thomas Kerbleski, the project manager for the developer.
A few different operations plan to open up in the space.
A “curated consignment shop” called Sunset Variety plans to open in August.
Other spaces include an unnamed flower shop and a music venue called Sunset Village Music Hall, which held an open house on July 4 with music from Sadie Applegate and Sunset Taxi Service.
(Kerbleski referred to this last event as a “practice,” as the hearing for the space’s limited live performance permit got pushed to Aug.

The name “Sunset Village,” said Kerbleski, comes from a circa 1950s photograph of the property when it housed several businesses, including a hardware store and grocery market.
Its most recent occupant, Grace Evangelical Free Church of San Francisco, sold the building earlier this year to Avi Ron, founder of the Houston-based Urban Meridian Group, and moved out in June.
Urban Meridian Group plans to develop the site into market-rate housing with ground-floor retail.
But in the three or so years until that happens, Kerbleski said, why not fill it with small businesses again?
“I grew up in the Outer Sunset, and in the '80s, their lack of retail and lack of things to do was always the negative connotation with the Outer Sunset,” Kerbleski said.
“Now there's clearly a different feeling in the air with all the vibrant activity.”
Months ago, Kerbleski sent out a survey asking what the community wanted, before narrowing it down to what was actually feasible.
Restaurants and bars proved tough, he said, because of how many permits that would require.
Right now, Kerbleski said they’re looking into filling the building’s remaining space with practice rooms or recording spaces for musicians, and small office spaces for solo entrepreneurs like therapists or real estate agents.
Jeana Lorraine, the owner of Sunset Variety, said that she plans to sell a wide range of items — prints, stickers, magnets, small original art, textiles, woodwork, ceramics — by artists with “strong connections to the Sunset.”
The shop already has more than 60 applications from artists interested in selling their work there, said Lorraine.
Kerbleski said he’s hoping to have the whole space up and running by “San Francisco summer,” otherwise known as September.
But there’s another opportunity to see the space this weekend, if you want to take a look for yourself.
The Sunset Village Music Hall will be showing the World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina; just arrive by kickoff at 12 p.m. at 4114 Judah St.

Western snowy plovers are back at Ocean Beach.
And no, it’s not the coffee special at Andytown Coffee Roasters; you can make that anytime.
A post from Bird Curious SF, a project of the Golden Gate Bird Alliance, confirms the return after the locally famous bird left in May for nesting season.
The post reminds beach-goers to stay on marked paths while enjoying Ocean Beach, as snowy plovers blend in perfectly with sand.
Also: don’t use kites (they scare snowy plovers), do pick up trash (which attracts predators), and do stick to the section of Ocean Beach north of Lincoln Way for activities like picnics, bonfires, and letting dogs run off-leash.
Lydia Bruno, an Outer Sunset resident and co-chair of the Golden Gate Bird Alliance’s conservation committee, spotted 20 plovers — whom she calls her “neighbors” — at Ocean Beach on Tuesday.
Western snowy plovers stay above the high-tide line, she added, so beach-goers who stay below that line should be fine.
“They're super cute.
They have a lot of personality,” Bruno said.
“They come back year after year.”
The western snowy plover is threatened, according to the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service, but is making a comeback.
Last year, according to Bay Nature, researchers counted a record 383 fledged adult western snowy plovers in the San Francisco Bay, which is actually a good sign — “a long way from the low of 72 birds documented in 2003, and about three-quarters of the way to the 500 adults needed for the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service to declare the population recovered.”
The Inner Sunset Seasonal Art Walk is this Friday at 9th Avenue and Irving Street from 5 to 8 p.m.
While weather might not be as nice as it has been (there was actual sun in the Sunset!), but there will be a local art pop-up at the Sip Tea Room, an art show at Saint Frank Coffee, tastings at Pepperjack Provisions, and live music at The Emporium and San Franpsycho from Fake Melody Jazz and Kevin North Band, respectively.
