A Bronx man was arrested for plowing his vehicle into the security gate surrounding Beyonce and Jay-Z's $26 million mansion in East Hampton earlier this week, according to multiple reports.
The suspect, identified as Keith Webster, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree criminal trespass in connection with the incident, the East Hampton Press reported.
He’s accused of driving his Subaru through the security gate circling the power couple's home shortly after 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
A security guard stationed outside the residence at the time told authorities he spotted the car “driving at a high rate of speed up the driveway,” and then failing “to stop at the closed mechanical driveway gates,” which were damaged in the crash, according to a police report.
Police said it is still unclear whether Webster was intentionally targeting Beyonce and her Grammy-winning husband.
It was not immediately clear if the couple was home at the time of the crash.
“He wasn’t making threats,” Detective Sgt.
Jennifer Dunn, of the East Hampton Police, told the East Hampton Star.
“He seemed confused.”
Dunn added: “This could be a health issue but we have to treat it as a crime until proven otherwise.”
Relatives did not know why Webster was in the area.
He also attempted to get into another nearby house first, but the homeowner said “no” and the man “left with no problem,” according to Dunn.
Webster suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was treated and then released back into police custody, according to the Press.
During his arraignment on Thursday, Webster appeared disoriented and he was subsequently taken to a mental health facility for evaluation.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
