Hot Ticket in The Town this week: Mosswood Meltdown
Oakland’s punk party will take over Mosswood park this weekend.
The festival, hosted by the legendary “king of camp,” filmmaker John Waters, will kick off with a pre-party at the park on Friday headlined by indie rock band Pavement.
This year’s headliners include Iggy Pop and Bikini Kill.
Also on the lineup, Japanese bands Oktoboke Beaver and The Fadeaways.
Official Mosswood Meltdown afterparty shows will take place at Thee Stork Club and Eli’s Mile High each night.

Rare Moments: Music Icons photo exhibit
British photographer and longtime East Bay resident Carol Scott spent much of the decade from 1976 to 1985 photographing rock and blues legends like Mick Jagger, Bonnie Raitt, Prince, Muddy Waters, and The Grateful Dead when they visited the Bay Area.
Scott had kept her vast collection private until now.
Through Aug. 5, part of her extensive collection of photos will be on display, including a photo she took of Jagger when the Rolling Stones played the Oakland Coliseum in 1978 that is part of the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

‘My Story, My Weaving: The Threads Are My Medicine’ performance
Oakland women weavers from Xjan Xwan Atitan, Chimb’al and Torasant Huehuetenango, Guatemala are participating in this narrative project with the support of NAKA Dance Theater and EastSide Arts Alliance.
The performance is a mix of personal and collective narratives, in Mam, inspired by the weaving tradition of the members of this Indigenous Maya Mam immigrant community.
With Spanish and English subtitles.

Waterfront Flicks at Jack London Square
Every Saturday through Aug. 1, the waterfront’s ferry lawn turns into an outdoor cinema beginning at sundown, around 8:30 p.m. (weather permitting).
Movie aficionados can bring lawn chairs, blankets, and food from their favorite local restaurant, although no glass or alcohol is permitted.
This weekend, check out the Y2K rom-com classic “10 Things I Hate About You,” starring the late Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles.

Mildred Howard in conversation with Nashormeh Lindo and Essence Harden
Prolific multimedia artist Mildred Howard, whose exhibit “Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory,” is on exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California through Oct. 18, will be at the museum’s theater in conversation this weekend with her longtime friend, the artist and arts advocate Nashormeh Lindo.
The conversation, in which they will reflect on being Bay Area artists, will be moderated by Essence Harden, a senior curator at San Franciscoʻs Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Coming soon to The Town: Poppy at the Fox Theater
Pop artist Poppy got her start on YouTube a decade ago.
Her first video, titled “I’m Poppy,” has close to 30 million views.
She released her seventh studio album “Empty Hands” on Jan. 23 and kicked off her tour on July 15.
She will make a stop in Oakland in August.
