PHILADELPHIA – Logan Webb and Luis Arráez aren’t the only members of the Giants organization who’ll be in Philadelphia for All-Star festivities this week.
With the possibility that the Giants would host the 2028 All-Star Game, a contingent of executives is in Philadelphia to monitor the All-Star events on and off the field and how Major League Baseball and the Phillies are handling the midseason extravaganza.
It’s not official, but the Giants are preparing nonetheless to host their first All-Star Game since 2007 at Oracle Park, where they’ve undergone many recent upgrades.
It’s contingent on MLB participating in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
The league and the players’ association — not exactly on great terms with labor talks underway for a new collective bargaining agreement — would need to agree to allow MLB players to play in the Olympics in the middle of the baseball season.

The sides have been in discussion with Olympic representatives.
That year’s All-Star Game, in mid-July, would need to be in close proximity to the Olympic site at Dodger Stadium so that players — at least the elite ones — could shuttle from one venue to the other.
A six-nation Olympic baseball tournament would follow the All-Star Game.
It’s not uncommon for a team’s officials to attend All-Star Games in the years leading up to their club hosting the event.
Giants officials did so before hosting in 2007.
Just to be prepared in case 2028 at Oracle Park is a reality, the Giants want to have a handle on all the All-Star events.
They’ll also get to watch Arráez, who is expected to enter Tuesday’s game as a substitute.
Webb, who was named an All-Star for a third time in the past three seasons, won’t pitch.

All-Star Games these days are more far reaching than in 2007.
For example, the All-Star city is the site of the annual amateur draft and a host of other MLB-sponsored events, including the Futures Game.
Giants prospects Dakota Jordan and Gavin Kilen participated in Sunday’s Futures Game in Philadelphia and Jordan recorded a double, one of just three extra-base hits in the game.
Of course, the Home Run Derby would return to China Basin, and maybe this time, someone could hit a ball into McCovey Cove.
Didn’t happen in 2007.
Barry Bonds didn’t participate in the derby his final season, and the big lefty swinger that year, Prince Fielder, didn’t come close.
The 2027 All-Star Game will be at Wrigley Field in Chicago, and the Cubs are among the teams that are also sending executives to Philadelphia.
The Giants had applied to serve as hosts, and they’d be the preferred choice over other MLB cities in the West because all the other teams have hosted since 2007 — Mariners (2023), Dodgers (2022), Rockies (2021), Padres (2016), Diamondbacks (2011), and Angels (2010).
In the past, MLB didn’t want to interrupt its summer schedule to participate in the Olympics especially with the games taking place out of the country.
Team USA has traditionally featured players from the minor leagues and college ranks.
