Clive trail reopens after almost 2 years of closure for construction 10%

After nearly two years of being split up by construction on Interstate 35, Clive's Greenbelt Trail is open to walkers, runners and cyclists.
Greenbelt Trail, a 11.3-mile-long trail that stretches from 73rd to 156th Streets and winds along Walnut Creek, has been partially closed since October 2024 due to construction that is part of the Hickman Road interchange project.
While under construction, because of heavy equipment, it was deemed unsafe for people to pass underneath the interstate bridge.
A lengthy detour was in place for trail users during construction.

Construction was initially expected to be complete by the end of 2025, but weather and a sewer project parallel to the trail pushed back when the trail could safely reopen.
The trail officially reopened to the public on Friday, July 31, according to a news release from Clive Assistant City Manager Pete De Kock.
"The City of Clive is excited to welcome people back to the Greenbelt Trail," De Kock said in the release.
"We appreciate the patience of residents, visitors, and all trail users during the long closure while interstate construction was underway."
On Saturday, Aug. 1, people were already taking to the trail, riding their bikes and walking their dogs.
The city said visitors should be cautious using the trail since some construction vehicles remain on site.
