Taylour Dickinson, a Reno woman charged with attempted murder and child abuse after a newborn was found in a dumpster, changed her plea to no contest Wednesday.
She was accused of giving birth then wrapping the baby in a towel and putting it in a garbage bag before walking it to a dumpster near her apartment in Sun Valley in the early morning hours of July 5, 2025.
The baby, a boy, survived after a passerby heard it crying.
Police said the baby was in the dumpster 10 hours before he was found.
Dickinson, 28, originally pleaded not guilty to both charges on Jan.
7.
Dickinson, who is married and has two other children, has been in the Washoe County jail since July.
She is being held on a $1 million cash-only bail.
According to testimony from Washoe County Sheriff's Detective Claire Hoops-Adams at a July bail hearing, Dickinson said she hoped someone would find the baby.
“She stated that she had no desire to have any more children, stating her family financially was living paycheck to paycheck at that point and they could not support an additional child,” Hoops-Adams testified.
Dickinson was investigated for a similar incident in 2023, when she told a sheriff’s detective that she had a miscarriage and placed the fetus in a garbage can.
That case was never presented to the Washoe County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
