Delshay Astor pleaded not guilty Monday to the murder of Anna Scott, a member of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.
Scott, 23, was found dead in the trunk of a burning car around 4 a.m.
Feb. 3, 2022, at Galena Creek Bridge south of Reno.
Authorities determined she had been shot to death.
Astor, 28, was arrested in June and was originally charged with second-degree murder in Indian Country.
The charge was later changed to first-degree murder.
During his arraignment in federal court on Aug. 3 before Judge Craig Denney, Astor plead not guilty to the new first-degree murder indictment and was kept in federal custody.
Public records show Astor has numerous previous arrests that include for weapons charges and robbery.
Astor's trial, originally set for Aug. 4, has been pushed back to Sept. 29 before Judge Miranda Du, according to the U.S.
Attorney's Office for Nevada and Astor's court records.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations also arrested Reno-Sparks Indian Colony member Joel Christy on Monday, July 27 on charges of accessory after the fact and aiding and abetting.
According to court documents, Christy plead not guilty at his arraignment on July 27, and he was ordered to be released on personal recognizance bond with no conditions.
This means he did not have to pay a cash bail, but he's promised to show up to all required court proceedings.
Christy will be tried with Astor on Sept.
29.
The case is being tried in federal court, with the U.S.
Attorney's Office leading the prosecution.
