Mara Flavia Souza Araujo, 38, drowned during the swim portion of the Ironman Texas triathlon in The Woodlands on Saturday, according to authorities.
"MCSO can confirm that Mara Flavia Souza Araujo, 38, of Brazil died while competing in the Ironman event in the Woodlands on Saturday," the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said.

The race begins with a 2.4-mile open-water swim  widely considered one of the most dangerous portions of the event  before athletes transition into a 112-mile bike ride and a full marathon.
Authorities said Araujo disappeared during the swim and was later found in about 10 feet of water.
Araujo wasn’t new to the sport.
She had been competing in triathlons for years and had completed multiple Ironman races, while also building a following of more than 60,000 people on Instagram.

In a haunting twist, one of her final social media posts reflected on the fragility of life.
"Enjoy this ride on the bullet train that is life," she wrote.
"And even with the speed of the machine blurring the landscape, look out the window  for at any moment, the train will drop you off at the eternal station."
